The Most Practicable Yoga :- Karma Yoga and its relevance to Modern Age.
Yoga is undoubtedly the most precious gift the Indians have gifted to the world. When greeks were busy in math, Romans were busy in wars, we Indians explored our inner realms, the real nucleus of everything. We came up with something that was gloriously fitting every aspect of humans, whether it may be social aspect, economic or overall progress. When everyone were busy exploring their externals, we Indians concentrated and directed that same efforts and energy to explore our inner nature, our source and our ultimate reality.
Well, welcome back to 2021 now;
Where Yoga has become a 45 minute workout,
A practice you do to burn those calories you gained eating the Gulabjamuns you ate. That's it. A little bit twisting-turning of your body, a set of breathing exercise and "mindfulness" practice. That's all we know about Yoga.
Ay... The Yoga that we'll discuss in today's blog is not at all this one. In fact, we will explore today that aspect of Yoga which Lord Krishna taught Arjuna. Yes, we will discuss that Yoga which is expounded in the Bhagvat Geeta.
People say Bhagvat Geeta has all the answers of our Modern Day problems. Did you ever thought why that 5000 year old text is still relevant today?
Yes. That holy text talks about the Yoga that is eternal, the Yoga that you can practical every second of your life, the Yoga that makes you blissful just by changing your approach towards life.. Yes, the Yoga that PurnaPurushottam Sri Krishna taught us is Karma Yoga - Yoga through Actions - Considering your 'Work' as your 'Worship'.
Let us understand Karma-Yoga from the lips of the greatest Karma-Yogi I know ( after Lord Krishna ) :- Swami Vivekananda.
" All the work you do is subjective, is done for your own benefit. God has not fallen into a ditch for you and me to help Him out by building a hospital or something of that sort. He ALLOWS you to work. He allows you to exercise your muscles in this great gymnasium, not in order to help Him but that you may help yourself. Do you think even an ant will die for want of your help? Most arrant blasphemy! The world does not need you at all. The world goes on, you are like a drop in the ocean. A leaf does not move, the wind does not blow without Him. Blessed are we that we are given the privilege of working for Him, not of helping Him. Cut out this word "help" from your mind. You cannot help; it is blaspheming. You are yourself here at His pleasure. Do you mean to say you help Him? You worship. When you give a morsel of food to the dog, you worship the dog as God. God is in that dog. He is the dog. He is all and in all. We are allowed to worship him. Stand in that reverent attitude to the whole universe, and then will come perfect non-attachment. This should be your duty. This is the proper attitude of work. This is the secret taught by Karma-Yoga."
This is really amazing.
See, whatever the age or time,
This lesson of Karma-Yoga is relevant to every age as we can simply include this in our day to day actions. This is the mindest we need towards our life and actions.
This is the most PRACTICAL Yoga you can ever think of. This attitude towards your life gives you absolute non-attachment and selflessness that Sri Krishna taught us in Geetaji.
Even in the life of Swami Vivekananda we see it everytime. Swami Vivekananda's only object of worship was humankind. He had the choice to just get lost in Himalayan Caves and spend his whole life in meditation. But he chose the path of Karma-Yoga and chose to worship humans as gods. He always called humans 'Living Gods' and dedicated his entire life to serve them!
Modern World is in demand of this Yoga,
Not the one that you remember to practice when your blood pressure is high!
With high hopes from readers to be Karma-Yogis,
Daksh Parekh.
