What can Modern India learn from its Freedom Struggle?
Namaste Everyone.
We all know very well how our freedom fighters fought for years to gain Swaraj. We precisely know every aspect of our Freedom Movement. Afterall, that's what we learn every now and then in our SST textbooks. We all know what Mahatma Gandhi did, we all know on which date the Battle of Plassey was fought and we perfectly know how many people were killed in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. But dear friends, why all this? To copy paste that in our exam papers? If yes, then sorry, for my mobile phone can do this job far better than you and me.
Then so, why do we remember the sacrifices of our brave national leaders? Thus, I present you all this blog, to discuss with you all the significance of our freedom struggle and to answer what Modern India can learn from it.
Nelson Mandela once beautifully said, "A man who takes away another man's freedom is a prisoner of hatred; he is locked behind the bars of prejudice and narrow-mindedness."
Thus we see that India's struggle for Independence was more than a simple struggle. It was a struggle of truth over evil and morality over immorality. And we already know, सत्यमेव जयते नानृतं सत्येन पन्था विततो देवयानम् - Only Truth triumphs, not falsehood. The path of truth leads to Devayanam, the abode of God.
Hence, we find that the whole freedom struggle of India was not fought on the bases of guns and canons. In fact, the Britishers had them in huge quantities.. Mad people they were.. Sat on a ship and conquered half of the world with their brute force. But alas, they couldn't succeed in the long run. Although we Indians did not have any weapon to fight back, yet we had the biggest weapon of the world. We had a weapon more stronger than the Brahmastra itself. Our weapon was morality. Our weapon was truth. Our weapon was renunciation and love for our people. સત્ય, પ્રેમ, નિષ્ઠા અને નિસ્વાર્થ àªાવ àªારત ની સૌથી મોટી ધરોહર છે.
In the end, we won, not just because we resisted back, we won because of our principles. We won because of our sky-high character. Do you understand now, why we keep repeating that same 100 year old swatantrataa story every year? It is a reminder for all of us, to be on our track, to keep cherishing the soul of India - that is morality, its ethics.
What now can be the message for us, the Modern Age?
It is for us to stand up and to open our eyes. It is to observe the plight of Modern India. Is our India really that Modern India which Dr. Abdul Kalam dreamt of?
It is ridiculous that still we have dirty politics playing around us. Still we have that traditional Education System, destined to make us robots. See around you my dear friend.. Poverty, Unemployment and other problems are constantly dancing around India. Well, we cannot say things are in their worst condition. But I can surely say that they can be better. I want to say that every one of us can rise and improve our old rusted systems. We must be better than our ancestors. Afterall, that is the only definition of evolution.. Constantly progressing. Instead of evolving our own identity, we have become xerox copies of westerners. From our head to toe we've become totally westernised. All we've taken from them is sheer materialism!
India got its social and political Independence in 1947, but right after that, we got some responsibilities too, to keep sustaining our national soul and to keep progressing. Do not weep for past now. No more Britishers now who can fool us and exploit us. Now we have no one to blame for our condition. Our future lies now solely in our hands. We must reform the social structure of India according to its ideologies and must enforce what we call Post-Independence Renaissance of India!
Thus I say, Let us all learn from our grand Indian Culture. Arise dear boys and girls, every one of you is a dynamo - a dynamo of energy and knowledge. Let Modern India arise through you, let it bloom from within you. What are you waiting for? उतिष्ठत, जाग्रत, प्राप्य वरान्निबोधत!
Dhanyavaaad.
