Human < Humane :- Evolution and Ideal Society.
Charles Darwin's book "On the Origin of Species" published in 1859 first formulated "The Theory of Evolution" by natural selection. It is basically a theory of biological evolution developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce. Darwin's theory stated that life started from a single cell and then eventually became more and more complex and gave us this human form.
Now if we observe our leap from Animal Kingdom to the Human Kingdom, we find that we surely have changed biologically, but mentally still we show our BRUTALITY. Yes, we still cannot get rid of our animal nature. It is all very good that we've come a long way, became civilized, socialised and so on, but still, when circumstances arise, we could be very rough on each other. All our burning desires, pain of incompleteness and nerve-tickling activities are but the outcomes of our this very animal nature, isn't it?
This is the real catch, you see. In big-big universities they teach in social science, "See, this is how we should live with each other.. We should engineer our society in such a way that we live peacefully, in a more civilized manner.." and so on. This razzly-dazzly stuff conveys the same message, that is, to try to rise above our animal nature and live for higher principles. In the human history we find the greatest of prophets too expounding this same message of trying to transcend our limitations and live for each other.
Greatest example of this idea is Lord Ram, who is considered to be the embodiment of principles, embodiment of an ideal human. Right from Prophet Muhammad, Jesus Christ, Lord Buddha, Mahavira, Chaitanya down to the modern Vivekananda, they all spoke on the same tune of love, service and always striving to live for higher principles. This explains us our blog's title, which is, we are indeed humans, but being humane is not every human has reached. This perfect body of ours, the most complex one on planet earth, we get it as a gift from our parents. This body is the result of millions of years of slow evolution, still we get it in a flick, thanks to the DNA of our parents which kept all our evolutionary progress in it stored like a memory card. But, after getting this body, it is totally on us how we treat it, what we teach it and how we evolve it through higher thoughts and principles.
Vivekananda puts it as, "Each thought is a little hammer blow on the lump of iron which our bodies are, manufacturing out of it what we want it to be. We are heirs to all the good thoughts of the universe, if we open ourselves to them."
Now, based on all our conclusions of today's blog, what shall be an ideal society?
See, we humans have very well evolved physically. No more can we now have two more legs, or three more mouths, or four more noses. We already have evolved every organ of ours perfectly according to its need. Physical evolution may possibly happen now only when the tremendous need of change arises in the body, and that little change or evolution too may take hundred thousand years at its earliest.
Our evolutionary journey from here onwards, which interestingly depends on our individual will, is mental evolution. Now the time has come to rise above this petty little body of ours and melt away all our physical differences. Thus, my ideal society would be that society where our eyes would have evolved to such an extent, that it shall be able to directly cut through the bodies of every living creature and directly witness its inner core. My ideal society would be that society which would treat everyone indifferently and lovingly. My ideal society would be that society where we would not only remain humans, but attain the label of being humane. And lastly, my ideal society would be ready to die for higher principles. It would be so bold and fearless that it would happily cast off this body in a flick to realise truth.
Let us strive to reach this ideal society.
Thanks,
Daksh Parekh.
