What is Spirituality? My Essay on its Essence.
There is nothing particularly interesting in observing the life of a sloth, or a caterpillar. But when you study lives of humans, you find their life events as a constant struggle between their ideals, perceptions, dreams VS endless resistance, sadness, dissappointments and so on.
We humans are never satisfied with the present moment, that's our nature. And that very dissatisfaction, and an inner agitation to evolve and assert ourselves higher and higher makes us who we are.
We aspire to obtain wealth, comfort, healthy life, but, essentially a life of inner satisfaction. Each individual, according to their own understanding, or according to cultural influences, defines for himself/herself what XYZ goal will fulfil their life.
Spirituality has been one of those goals for thousands and thousands of years now. Well, people seek it for various reasons, and even define it with various meanings.
In today's blog, I will put forth my own idea of spirituality.
Spirituality is the attainment the ultimate state of evolution.
The whole idea is to find peace within oneself. The idea is to eliminate misery once for all. Being spiritual we transcend pain and suffering.
When brutes, our enjoyments were external. We were the slaves to our senses. The moment we became more sensitive, more receptive and our brains started thinking, our enjoyments too amplified. With that, mental sufferings, hunger, dissatisfied nature, desires, too intensified, or became more finer, unlike beastly passions.
But that invited bigger emptiness within oneself. Animals aren't lonely, aren't curious, aren't that expressive, be it communication, thinking, etc.
We attained that during evolution.
Now that the intensity of our life has increased manifolds, we are available to a tremendous psycological state. We can train our mind, make it our friend.
Spirituality is renunciation of that, which is already transitory and ephermal, and establishing ourselves into that which is eternal. Therein, search for pleasure ceases, and fear of pain ceases.
Sprituality is the fruiting of mental evolution. It is highest of morality, highest of truths.
Now, this is what I mean by spirituality.
What we call as 'religions' is nothing but various means to attain to spirituality.
It is an obvious fact that pursuit of spirituality is very very ancient, and hence the people who came before us constructed spohisticated systems to help masses evolve spirituality.
Therefore, religion is but the helper, the guidebook.
Just as we study sciences, math, and other studies which our ancestors worked on, we can go on the path of spirituality too.
As even education too can be defiled and damped due to orthodoxy, traditional approach, nonsensical interpretations and representations, religions too undergo such unfortunate phases.
But the end and aim is very clear - Perfection, Further Evolution, Attainment of Unceasing Bliss.
Thanks,
Daksh Parekh.
PS:- I tried my best to describe spirituality in the most simplified and trivial sense. Also, this blog includes no references - just rough, wild, spontaneous and genuine thoughts. Also, to make it as general as possible, you'll find no mention of any religion, sect, personality - but straightforward, basic idea of spirituality according to me.
It will be interesting to come and read this blog after a few years to see how much can I add in this. Ofcourse, essence of spirituality cannot be described in even volumes of books - but here's my gist of it till now!
