"Strength" :- My Poem to the Youths Who Dare.

I was in 10th class. That day, our beloved English teacher Nikhil Sir (here you go sir -Special mention!) explained to us about Ballads.

He told us that Ballad Poems are sentimental poems, composed like music, which conveys a story and sets a strong narrative.

He then encouraged us to try composing our own Ballad.

As a result, I composed "Strength" with a clear intention to narrate my own ideal of life, plans for India etc.

For that I funnily set a story around a boy Sharadanath Dutta, who lived in Calcutta - and was struggling to meet his ideal.

I think "Strength" is so far the best poem that I've written. Have a read!

Strength

"In a crumpled county of clumsy Calcutta,
Lived a lovely boy called Sharadanath Datta.
Sharat for short - had, one thing, struggled alot.
For his life, he had devoted to a lofty thought.

The ideal he had put before him was no childsplay,
"Awaken O India" - National Upliftment was his chosen way.
Character-Building Education, he believed, was enough to start,
For his hope was in the youth, with tough and robust head, hand, heart.

But poor Sharat was ignorant of the fact,
That idealism and reality never make a pact.
His only mistake, was reading Vivekananda,
Who, like him, had always thundered "Arise My India!"

"Onwards, Onwards" roared his every cell,
Heaven, he wanted to make, this earthly hell.
The one who always weeps amd wails,
Misses his target, and miserably fails.
Thou, brave soldier, with purity, patience, perseverance,
Know for certain, always prevails.

"Who is brave, Sharat, O son?"
"The one, the one who can face a canon?"
Nay! In love and sacrifice lies true heroism.
Serving for and seeking for higher principles is the real secret of humanism.

In a crumpled county of clumsy Calcutta,
Lived a lovely boy called Sharadanath Datta.
Sharat for short - had now had, strength and faith alot,
For his life, he had devoted to a lofty thought."

Does a poet ever take pains to explain is own poem to the readers? Bah!

Interpret it yourself. Reflect on each word. Like tiny bombs, each line conveys tremendous message behind writing it specifically there! Good luck.

Thanks,
Daksh Parekh.

Ps:- Nikhil Sir is the best!
